Senator Roberts appointed Chairman of Senate Calendar Committee

NASHVILLE, (January 10, 2018) – State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Calendar Committee.  The announcement was made yesterday by Lt. Governor Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge), as the 110th General Assembly reconvened for the 2018 legislative session. The Calendar Committee is responsible for scheduling bills and resolutions for consideration by the State Senate.

“Senator Roberts has amassed an impressive record of accomplishment during his time in the Senate,” said Lt. Governor McNally.  “He is an integral member of our caucus with a strong record of conservative leadership. I believe he will do a great job as Calendar Committee chair.”

“I am honored to be appointed as Chairman of the Calendar Committee, and I appreciate the confidence that Lt. Governor has placed in me to serve in this role,” said Senator Roberts.

Senator Roberts also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee and sits as a member of the Government Operations Committee as well as the Judiciary Committee.

The Senate Commerce and Labor Committee is responsible for legislation concerning commerce, insurance, and agriculture.

The Senate Government Operations Committee oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize, or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies or councils of state government.  The Committee also hears bills regarding licensing and/or certification of occupational and/or professional groups and reviews regulations promulgated by Tennessee departments, commissions, boards or agencies.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is responsible for legislation relating to civil and criminal laws, judicial proceedings, appointment of elected officials and governing bodies, as well as all matters relating to the courts.
