(NASHVILLE), October 11, 2019 – State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) and Representative Jay Reedy (R-Erin) announced today that New Johnsonville will receive $242,000 through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).   Roberts and Reedy made the announcement after receiving the information from the Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD).

The grant will be used to purchase one new fire truck for the New Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Department.

“This is a very competitive grant program,” said Sen. Roberts.  “The improvements this grant will make are significant and reflect a greater investment in our community.  We are very pleased that these funds have been awarded and congratulate our local officials for their successful application.  We were pleased to support it.”

“Congratulations to our local leaders on securing this much-deserved funding,” said Rep. Reedy. “This important grant funding will give our first responders the resources so they can continue to protect our community from danger. Senator Roberts and I will continue to assist our local officials in securing future grants as we work to meet the needs of our citizens.”

The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly.  ECD administers the grant program based on priorities set at the local level where community needs are best known.
