NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) asks Tennessee media outlets to cover the Candlelight Vigil and Memorial Dedication in Waverly this Saturday to remember the 20 adults and children lost in the devasting Humphreys County flood of 2021. Governor Bill Lee will be in attendance and make remarks.

The vigil and dedication will be held at 7 pm, August 24, 2024, at 506 E. Main Street, Waverly, TN, next to the former Waverly Junior High School.

“We continue to call attention to the need for rebuilding homes, businesses, bridges, and – most important – lives. The flood claimed 20 lives, damaged or destroyed over 800 homes, and affected thousands of lives and livelihoods. In addition to rebuilding homes, we still need a new elementary school and a new junior high school. There is so much work left to do,” said Senator Roberts.

As he has since 2021, Senator Roberts will bicycle 100 miles on Saturday from his home in Springfield to the Humphreys County Courthouse in remembrance of the 20 lives lost and in support for those affected by the floods.
