Senator Roberts Announces Intern Program; 50 high school seniors selected for campaign

SPRINGFIELD (October 2, 2018) – Today, Senator Kerry Roberts announced that 50 interns have been selected to work on his re-election campaign. Roberts was elected to a four-year term in 2014 with over 70% of the vote to represent Cheatham, Dickson, Hickman, Humphreys, and Robertson counties.

“During the past four years, Dianne and I have met hundreds of young people in chamber leadership programs, FFA, 4-H, and other youth programs,” said Roberts. “These young people are our best and brightest, and we are blessed to have them as part of our team.”

Kiley Hoppe, intern coordinator for Roberts’ re-election campaign, interviewed dozens of high school seniors who agreed to complete 40 hours of work on the campaign. “The response from all five counties was amazing,” said Hoppe. “The quality of our interns is impressive and we’re excited for the opportunity to work with them.”

The interns will complete 40 hours of campaign work and receive a $250 scholarship plus a letter of recommendation for their post-secondary endeavors. One outstanding intern will be selected for the Sharon Rowley Memorial Scholarship, an additional $500 scholarship in memory of Sharon Rowley. Sharon was one of Senator Roberts’ most devoted campaign workers and a constant champion for Senator Roberts and his wife, Dianne, in Dickson County and the surrounding counties.

“In the 20-plus campaigns I’ve been associated with, none has had such an impressive intern program,” said Taylor Henning, Roberts’ campaign manager. “And to select one intern for the Sharon Rowley Memorial Scholarship is a wonderful way to honor Sharon, whose love for Kerry and Dianne was extremely well known.”

In addition to the scholarship and letter of recommendation, the program will include a post-election social event in November and a Legislative Day in January, where the interns will be able to watch committee hearings and attend a Senate floor session at the Tennessee State Capitol.

The interns hail from all five counties in Senate District 25 and almost all public and private high schools are represented.
