Final Springfield-to-Waverly ride will commemorate the 20 lives lost in the Humphreys County flood five years ago
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield), who represents Humphreys County in the Tennessee Senate, will make his final 100-mile bicycle ride from Springfield to Waverly on Saturday, August 22, in memory of the victims of the deadly 2021 Humphreys County flood.
The ride is being held in observance of the fifth anniversary of the August 21, 2021, flood that claimed 20 lives and devastated families, businesses and communities throughout Humphreys County.
“Each year, my goal has been to remember the victims while also reminding Tennesseans of the families and businesses in Humphreys County whose lives were forever changed by the flood,” said Roberts. “This will be my final ride from Springfield to Waverly. My hope is that we can establish an annual memorial ride in Humphreys County to continue remembering those we lost while raising money and awareness for those who still struggle with the lasting effects of the flood.”
Roberts first made the 100-mile ride from Springfield to Waverly on October 31, 2021, just over two months after the flood. He has continued the ride in the years since as a solemn remembrance of the lives lost and in support of the people of Waverly and Humphreys County.
